Restore Old Photos
Sharpen old photos, restore faces, add colour.

Files are deleted automatically after 24 hours. We do not log your content or use it for AI training.

This tool cleans up scanned or photographed old pictures. It removes blur and compression noise with a neural restorer and rebuilds faces with GFPGAN, so portraits that were soft or damaged look natural again.
Keep the original size (1x) or double it (2x). For black and white pictures you can tick the colour option and have the photo colourised as a last step. Work runs on our GPU server and your file is deleted after 24 hours.
How to use Restore Old Photos
- Add a PNG, JPG or WebP scan of up to 10 MB by dragging it in, picking a file or pasting from the clipboard.
- Choose 1x to keep the size or 2x to enlarge, and tick the colour option if the photo is black and white.
- Press Restore photo and wait while it is queued and processed.
- Check the result, then download it. Press Delete now to remove it from our server immediately.
Features
GFPGAN rebuilds eyes, skin and hair on faces that are small, soft or scratched.
A Real-ESRGAN based restorer reduces blur, noise and JPEG blocks in the whole picture.
Colourise black and white photos in the same run, using the DDColor model.
Keep the pixel size of your scan or enlarge it two times.
PNG avoids extra compression; WebP and JPG give smaller files.
No account, no training on your files, and automatic deletion after 24 hours.
Getting a good scan first
The result can only be as good as the input. Scan flat prints without glare, or photograph them square to the camera in daylight. Crop away the border and avoid heavy sharpening in the scanner software, which the restorer then amplifies.
Frequently asked questions
Does it bring back what the photo really looked like?
No. The models add believable detail, they do not know the original. Faces in particular can change slightly, so compare with the original before you rely on the result, especially for photos of real people you want to remember accurately.
How accurate are the colours?
Colourisation is a guess based on many other photos. Skies, grass and skin tones are usually plausible, but clothes, cars and objects can get colours that were never there. Treat the result as an illustration.
Which files work best?
A clean scan at 300 dpi or a straight-on photo of the print in even light. Deep creases, torn areas and large missing parts are not repaired, only softened.
What is the maximum file and output size?
Uploads can be up to 10 MB in PNG, JPG or WebP. At 2x the output has four times as many pixels, so very large inputs are rejected with a clear message.
Are my photos kept?
Only long enough for you to download the result. Files are deleted automatically after 24 hours, and we do not log image content or train models on it.
