Image file converters

Phones and websites increasingly save pictures as HEIC, WebP or AVIF. These formats are compact, but many editors, printers, forms and email services still only accept JPG or PNG. The converters here turn them into formats that open everywhere.

Every converter runs in your browser. Files are decoded and re-encoded on your device and are never uploaded, you can add many at once, and results can be downloaded one by one or as a ZIP. Converted files carry no metadata such as GPS location.

How to pick the right converter

Choose JPG for photos, PNG when you need transparency or no loss

JPG files are much smaller but slightly lossy. PNG keeps every pixel and transparency, at several times the file size. Both HEIC and WebP have a converter for each.

iPhone photos will not attach or upload: HEIC to JPG

HEIC needs a licensed decoder that many Windows programs and sites lack. The HEIC decoder is downloaded only when you pick a HEIC file.

Animated WebP for an older app: WebP to GIF

Keeps the frames of an animation. GIF is limited to 256 colours, so gradients look rougher and files can be larger than the WebP.

Modern AVIF from a website: AVIF to JPG

Saves an AVIF image as a JPG you can edit or send. Your browser must support AVIF to decode it.

Converted file still too large

Run it through Compress image, or Resize image if you only need smaller dimensions. Both also run in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. All converters work locally in your browser. Closing the tab discards the files.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop several files, convert them together and use Download all as ZIP. HEIC to PDF can also create one combined PDF.

Will I lose quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG loses a small amount of detail, which you can control with the quality slider; 90 is a good default.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the original?

HEIC, WebP and AVIF compress photos far better than PNG does. Use JPG when file size matters more than lossless quality.
