Processed in your browser. Your files are never uploaded and metadata such as GPS location is removed.

WebP is a modern format that many websites use for both pictures and short animations, but plenty of chat apps, forums, email clients and older programs only accept GIF. This tool turns WebP files into GIF images that open almost anywhere.

Animated WebP files keep their motion: every frame and its timing are carried over into the GIF, which loops forever like most GIFs do. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.

How to use WebP to GIF Converter

    1. Drop your WebP files onto the box or choose them from your device. You can select many at once.
    2. Press Convert to GIF. Each file shows its own status, its size in pixels and the number of frames.
    3. Check the sizes. GIF is far less efficient than WebP, so animated files can grow a lot.
    4. Download single files, or use Download all as ZIP to get everything in one archive.

    Features

    Nothing is uploaded

Conversion runs in your browser tab. Your files are never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete later.

    Animation kept

Animated WebP becomes an animated GIF with the same frames and timing, looping forever.

    Transparency kept

Transparent areas stay transparent. GIF only knows fully transparent or fully solid pixels, so soft edges are snapped to one or the other.

    Batch and ZIP download

Add many files at once, see the status of each one, download them individually or all together in a ZIP.

    Works on any device

Runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.

When to convert WebP to GIF

Convert when you want to share an animated sticker or short clip somewhere that rejects WebP, or when you need one file that plays in every chat app and email client. For still pictures, WebP to PNG or WebP to JPG gives smaller and better-looking results.

    Frequently asked questions

Does it keep the animation of an animated WebP?

Yes in browsers that can decode animated images frame by frame, which includes current Chrome, Edge and Safari. In a browser without that support, such as some versions of Firefox, you get a single still GIF made from the first frame.

Are my WebP files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device. We cannot see your files and nothing is sent over the network, which also means the tool keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

Why is the GIF so much bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses far better than GIF, especially for animation and photos. It is normal for a GIF to be five to ten times larger than the WebP it came from.

Why do the colors look slightly different?

A GIF frame can hold at most 256 colors. The tool picks the best 256 for each frame, which is fine for graphics and stickers but can show banding in photographs.

Is there a size or length limit?

Images wider or taller than 1024 pixels are scaled down to fit that size, and animations are cut at 300 frames, to keep the GIF a reasonable size and the conversion fast on phones.

My browser says it cannot decode the file.

WebP is supported by all current browsers. If a file fails, it may be damaged or not really a WebP, so try opening it in another program.
