Video to Text
Long files can take a few minutes. You can leave this page: if you come back in this browser within 24 hours, we reconnect to your job. Files are deleted automatically after 24 hours and we do not log or train on your content.
Turn the spoken words in a video into text. Add an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file and the tool listens to its audio track and returns a transcript you can copy or download.
It suits screen recordings, lectures, interviews, webinars and clips from your phone. The video is processed on our server and deleted automatically after 24 hours; only the audio is used to produce the text.
How to use Video to Text
- Drop a video file onto the box or choose it from your device. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV are accepted, up to 100 MB and 30 minutes.
- Choose the spoken language, or keep Auto-detect.
- Press Transcribe and watch the upload and processing progress.
- Copy the transcript or download it as a text file. Use Delete now to remove the video from our server straight away.

No content logging, no training on your files, deletion after 24 hours.
What works best
Clear speech with little background music gives the best results. Videos with loud music, crowd noise or several people talking over each other are harder to transcribe, and the text may contain gaps or wrong words.
For long videos, process them in parts of up to 30 minutes. Joining the transcripts afterwards is quick and lets you check each part as you go.
Uses
Common uses include notes from recorded lectures, searchable text for training videos, quotes from interviews, and draft captions for clips. Check the text before publishing it.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the transcript?
On clear speech from a single speaker in a quiet room the result is usually very good. Accuracy drops with strong accents, overlapping voices, background noise, music, poor microphones and specialist vocabulary. Names, numbers and technical terms are the most common mistakes, so read the transcript before you publish or rely on it.
What are the file limits?
Up to 100 MB and up to 30 minutes of audio or video per file. Longer recordings should be split into parts first. The page checks the length in your browser before uploading so you do not wait for a file that would be rejected.
Is my recording private?
Your file is used only to produce the transcript. We do not log what is said, we do not train models on uploads, and the file and result are deleted automatically after 24 hours. You can remove them sooner with the Delete now button.
Which video formats are supported?
MP4, MOV (QuickTime), WebM and MKV. A video without a speech track will give an empty or meaningless result.
My video is bigger than 100 MB. What can I do?
Export a lower-resolution copy, or extract just the audio and use the Audio to Text tool. Speech does not need high video quality.
Can I get subtitles with timestamps instead?
Yes. The Subtitle Generator produces SRT or VTT files with timing, which video players and editors can load.
